Isn't he sleek
& beautiful? I'd never seen one before ... he was soaring and dipping
and finally landed long enough for a quick picture.
Another bird
I hadn't seen ... he's a member of the woodpecker family.
Striking red "V" on the back of his head; he was rooting around
for bugs in the grass.
And all the
regulars ...
Other notables that I don't have good pictures of (not for lack of trying):
hawk, kingfisher, merganser, snowy egret, pheasant, seagull, hummingbird,
oriole.
These finches
diligently tried to build a nest in an eave of our deck.
For several days they gathered twigs and grasses, but sadly, their efforts
were in vain.
Everything kept falling to the ground, no nest. I hope they found a better
location.
