To the south are the other two islands of Monomoy, which are constantly changing. The whole sand spit was connected to the mainland, but was split apart first by a storm in 1958, then again during the blizzard of '78.
So now there's North Monomoy (2.5 miles long) and South Monomoy (5 miles) that can only be reached by boat.
