Leaving Truro we travelled on the Glooscap Trail (they do love their Trails, Routes, and Drives, here in NS) along the Minas Basin. Absolutely stunning. The light was spectacular, shimmering off the water, mud, and marshes of the Basin. Then I got really lucky: in a desperate attempt to find a bathroom, we stopped at the first potential locale — Anthony Provincial Park. I was doubly blessed — an outhouse! — and the most beautiful scenes on and around a long pier, not visible from the road. For more views, click here and here.

Not only were the views of the Basin wonderful, but the juxtaposition of small towns and rolling green countryside in the fore and background made such appealing landscapes. This was just the nicest area ...

We would turn away from the Basin as we went south, and follow the Avon River for several miles. And lo and behold, we saw a bit of the tidal bore effect happening there.
