"Scene of British attack in War of 1812: A Vermonter, Lieut. Chruchill built a parapet and set up a battery. On August 3, 1813 a British gunboat and two sloops 1 1/2 miles offshore began a cannonade. This attack was repulsed by the American Battery and 2 armed scows."
