As we climped Upper Cape Breton island, it was one glorious sight after another. On the northeastern coast along the Cabot Trail is Middle Head, a finger-shaped peninsula cliff that points eastward into the Atlantic Ocean. We stayed two days at the stately Keltic Lodge, on Middle Head, overlooking the Atlantic. Spectacular views in all directions, gourmet dining at the Lodge (best lobster ever), the beautiful Highland Links golf course ... in all, a special place to stay.
I
can't say enough about Cape Breton. As much as I loved other areas of
Nova Scotia, the highlight of the trip was being here, in this stunning
area. As we traveled north from Ingonish along the Cabot Trail, the
land, the water, the sky, the light all came together in the most thrilling
way. This was especially true on the "side roads" through Neil's Harbour
and White Point on the Route Panoramique aptly named.
