Old San Juan exuded charm and history. Walking the streets was pure pleasure ... the atmosphere was glorious — stimulating one moment, relaxing the next. Great galleries, restaurants and shops; beautiful old-world architecture and interesting new-world decay; small and large plazas and parks; balconies and artistic greenery; and cobblestones underfoot everywhere. So nice.

The island that Old San Juan sits atop slants upward from the Port of San Juan, so there are some steep climbs through the streets before reaching the apex, El Morro, at the western edge.

Around every corner was a new delight. We saw many happy kids, being kids ... oblivious to the tourists all around them.
